The total solar eclipse in Leo peaks today. The Moon slides fully in front of the Sun at 20 degrees of Leo, and for a little under two and a half minutes the sky goes dark over Greenland, Iceland, a sliver of northern Russia, northern Spain, and a small corner of Portugal. In the United States it reads as a partial, if you are far enough north to catch it at all, ranging from about three percent coverage in Detroit to thirty-seven percent in Fairbanks. The new moon is exact at 1:36 p.m. Eastern.
That is the astronomy. The astrology is more interesting, and it is not what most eclipse coverage will tell you.
An eclipse is not a horoscope. It is a hinge.
New moons are quiet. You set an intention, you plant something, you wait. Eclipses are the version of that with the volume turned up and the timeline compressed. They tend to arrive as events rather than moods. A conversation that finally happens. A resignation letter. A door that closes so cleanly you stop rattling the handle.
This one sits closer to the south node of the Moon, which entered Aquarius in late July. South node eclipses have a subtractive quality. Why this solar eclipse in Leo carries extra force
Three things are worth knowing.
Jupiter entered Leo on June 30, 2026, and sits at roughly nine degrees of Leo during the eclipse. It is not tightly conjunct the eclipse point, but it is in the same room, and it has been enlarging Leo themes since midsummer: visibility, creative risk, the ego’s honest appetite for recognition. Growth cycles and eclipse cycles rarely overlap this neatly.
Saturn, retrograde at 14 degrees of Aries, holds a wide fire trine to the eclipse. Fire trines with Saturn in them are the useful kind. They suggest that whatever you commit to now has structure available, provided you are willing to do the unglamorous part.
Mars entered Cancer on August 11, one day before the eclipse. Mars in Cancer is not a straightforward warrior. It defends, it withdraws, it acts from feeling rather than strategy. Expect your reactions this week to run more protective than usual, and give other people the same allowance.
This eclipse belongs to Saros series 126, and it lands hardest for anyone with planets or angles between roughly 15 and 25 degrees of the fixed signs: Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio.

How to work with an eclipse without making it worse
A few things hold true across charts.
Do not make an irreversible decision inside the seventy-two hour window if you can avoid it. Eclipse energy is famously poor at proportion. What feels urgent today often reads differently by the weekend, and the eclipse story tends to keep unfolding for about six months regardless of how fast you move.
Do write down what surfaces. Not intentions in the manifesting sense, just observations. What you noticed, what you resented, what you envied, who you thought of.
