That synthetic material has names. It is often called hematine, or hemalyke, or just magnetic hematite. When labs have tested it, it has turned out to be a ceramic ferrite, frequently a barium-strontium ferrite, the same family of material used to make ordinary fridge and speaker magnets. It is pressed and magnetized in a factory and contains little or none of the natural mineral, despite the name on the tag.
I am not telling you this to make you feel cheated. Manufactured magnetic beads are cheap, durable, and good-looking, and plenty of people enjoy them. If you like your magnetic bracelet, keep wearing it. The point is just honesty about what it is. If you wanted a piece of the ancient blood-streaked iron mineral humans have used for a hundred thousand years, a strongly magnetic bracelet is not it.
The tells are easy. The magnet test settles it nearly every time. If it grabs a magnet hard, or if beads cling firmly to each other, it is synthetic, because real hematite barely reacts.
